Current Artist in Residence: Daryn Wright
Daryn Wright is a ceramicist, painter, and installation artist working in Vancouver.
Her work primarily involves using the archive as source material for interdisciplinary approaches to installation.
Food, folklore and domesticity play a major role in her work, subjects which are often explored through the lens of play and irony.
Using ceramics, textiles and ready-made objects, Wright creates immersive installations that take their inspiration from vintage cookbooks and obscure ephemera.
The Dinner Party is an expression of decadence and debauchery as much as it is about the joys of the kind of dinner party that stretches late into the evening.
The ceramic food appears both ripe and spent, enticing and repulsive, strange and familiar, inviting viewers to reminisce on their own unhinged dinner parties of yore.
Daryn Wright was born in 1989 in Vancouver BC and they are currently living and working in Vancouver, BC.
Wright didn't go to art school but wishes she had - instead she worked on a Masters of Publishing at Simon Fraser University in 2015.
Recent Exhibitions include Aphrodisiac Cookery: Ancient and Modern at 4 by 4 on 5th in Vancouver and a photo essay titled "Eat Your Cake" in Babbles 3: Mealtime.
